But one day, I hired a college kid and got to know him and like him. What a shock when he told me he was a regular
at the College Pub. He smoothed the ice between
Don and myself, and eventually, brought me back into the
Pub where we picked up right where we left off, as old friends. It seemed fitting that when we decided
to re-form
the band, Port Landers quickly had to learn how to tickle the ivories because he was going to be in the group.
We did re-form, playing a triumphant reunion show that packed the Pub to overflowing. We videotaped most
of it for posterity, although some idiot
forgot to charge the battery and it ran out halfway through the second
of our three sets. We played a few more times, but it eventually faded out. I think the main
reason was MTV --
everyone had it by then, and that visual overload stole a lot of our thunder away.
The best thing about those years, though, was that I got to make a whole new set of friends -- the younger Pub
regulars -- who I consider among my closest
friends to this day, even though we don't see each other much.
When Hinny said he wanted to put this web site together, I thought he needed a brain exam at first. But after
looking at some of the prototype pages, I can't
wait to see how people react to it. People who saw us and maybe
were fans; people who heard of us but never saw us; and people who wouldn't know us from Adam but
think
we have a cool name.
A second reunion? Hell, I'm up for it. My belly is as big as ever and there have been a lot of good songs written
in the down years that I'd like to try out.
Everyone else is married with children, and their bellies may have gotten
a tad bigger, too. But, then, we always did this for ourselves first, believing that the
fans would follow. Thanks
for paying attention and, remember, We Take This Seriously.
Cheers, Phred Phlegm
